Viridian Energy

Viridian energy description video

Viridian energy is a third party energy supplier. Their arrival on the scene on the east coast is proving to be nothing short of amazing. This company is currently the largest third party supplier in the state of NJ. They are a 100% green company that is currently supplying customers in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. A common misconception with this is that many believe that they are switching from their current electric company.

This is not the case.

Viridian is a supplier that works with your current electric company to provide a greener environment while residential and commercial consumers may benefit by having lower monthly payments as a result of using green reusable energy.

With the deregulated energy market, third party suppliers are emerging and plenty more will follow . However, many of the companies that are currently appearing do not offer all that Viridian has to offer. If you were to look at some of the other third party suppliers, you will see that many offer brown un-reusable energy while requiring credit checks, contracts, and deposits!

Viridian customers have no credit checks, hidden fees, penalties for cancellation, etc.

The energy choice programs in NJ, Md, Ct, and Pennsylvania allows electricity consumers to shop for rates and pick their own supplier. Gas and Electricity Suppliers will be searched for on a consistent basis as new companies are expanding their operations attempting to gain a foothold in a fairly untapped energy supply market.

Viridian Energy works with your local utility that empowers the customer to make a positive impact on the environment by using green reusable energy. People who choose another supplier will still get their power delivered to their homes by their local utility, which will continue to be responsible for maintaining the power lines or restoring electricity when there are blackouts. The main difference is how a your bill might look: It would still show the local utility’s charge to deliver the electricity as well as the alternate supplier’s charge for supplying the electricity.

Some other third party suppliers are offering at least 15 percent below utility pricing and they do not charge a fee to join; however, some of these companies do require customers to sign contracts and breaking that contract would cost $12.50 per month for every month or partial month that is outstanding. In addition, many of the other third party suppliers are using brown electricity which creates more pollution than all of the vehicles in the world combined.

Viridian has distinguished itself as a 100% green company offering energy of 20% or more that comes from renewable energy sources such as solar power or wind.
There is no charge to sign up for the service , no credit checks, no set up or installation, and you can switch to another supplier at anytime risk free. Viridian also has a tremendous opportunity in an untapped market for anyone that would like to be an associate

How About L.E.D Lights?

Do Led lights help the environment as well?

I really haven’t given it much thought til now. The only reason I actually bought them is because everyone else was buying them. There were no complaints really. So why not?

What can I say, I’m horrible when it comes to shopping. However, when it comes to shopping for things that will help the environment and put money back in my pocket….I’m all for it. I just overlooked the details about how much Led lights contribute to the green movement; until, I visited a few blogs and did some reading. I found that green energy along with green lighting in the home can save you a lot of money while greatly reducing negative effects on the environment.

Led lights contain no harmful gasses nor do they use mercury. They are not sensitive to humidity, rapid on/off cycling does not decrease the life of the bulb, and they are not sensitive to temperature.

Led lights have an average life span of 50,000 hours, compared to 1,200 hours for incandescent bulbs, and 8,000 hours for fluorescent bulbs.

Clearly, every home that uses green energy along with Led lighting will save money and will help the environment.

Cincinnati Bell adds products to expand customer base

Voice and data telecommunications company Cincinnati Bell Communications is marketing a variety of new products to consumers in order to expand its reach, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The company is planning a media campaign for its 4G smartphones with a buy-one, get-one free offer after a mail-in rebate. According to Ted Torbeck, president and GM of Bell, it will add at least four other phones and tablets to its 4G offerings later this year.

In addition, Bell recently formed a marketing partnership with electricity provider Viridian Energy to expand its services even further. The company will offer its residential customers electric service from 100 percent renewable sources.

By offering this service, Bell became the first telecom provider to extend retail energy supply along with its entertainment, internet and phone packages.

“The retail energy market is an exciting and rapidly growing space, and this convergence between telecom and energy is a dramatic first for both industries,” said Torbeck in a statement. “This innovative partnership with Viridian Energy provides substantial value to our customers, saving them money and helping them contribute to a cleaner environment.”

Viridian Energy Completes Inaugural “7 Continents in 7 Years” Sustainability Project

Viridian Energy – 7 continents in  7 years?

Through this experience, I came to better understand Viridian’s sustainability mission and the impact we can have both locally and globally

http://www.businesswire.com

Viridian Energy Founder and CEO, Michael Fallquist

We had the opportunity to ask the Founder and CEO of Viridian Energy a few questions about his company and the importance of  green energy.

CHARMED | When and why was Viridian Energy founded? Where is Viridian based?
Viridian was founded in March 2009. Viridian was founded with the mission to provide retail customers an affordable green energy option. The business started in New York but soon planted its roots in Connecticut where the market was attractive to begin business. We knew we could offer renewable energy at a discount, which no one else was doing at the time.

CHARMED | How many employees do you have, and what are your short-term and long-term growth goals you’re your company?
We have around 40 employees now, and more than 13,000 independent sales associates, which is hard to believe. We have grown from 250 customers in September of 2009 to more than 140,000 today. We have several short-term goals for the year, including opening for service in additional markets, promoting our sustainability initiatives and our 100% Pure Green product, as well as launching new products like natural gas. Long-term, the goal is to expand our service from an energy provider to an energy partner. I want people to come to Viridian for answers on how their personal energy consumption works, how it impacts the environment and what they can do to lower their energy usage, costs and, consequently, their negative environmental impact. Ultimately, if we can raise consumer awareness and demand for renewable energy, we can help drive the development of the technology and infrastructure necessary to establish a permanent energy source shift in our country.

CHARMED | In which states does Viridian Energy currently operate?
Viridian offers service to customers in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.

CHARMED | What has been Viridian’s biggest challenges pertaining to its growth?
The biggest challenges have simply been growing pains related to our accelerated growth. From hiring and training new staff, to implementing more robust IT solutions, to giving our sales force great tools to use in the field, to finding new space big enough for our growing team, we are constantly working feverishly to stay ahead of our growth curve. It’s a challenge, but it’s exciting. One reason we have been able to grow and support our growth is that we understand the importance of properly educating all of our independent sales associates. We help our associates to become experts on renewable energy and deregulation to make sure they are running a compliant and successful business.

CHARMED | You worked and lived in Australia.  How was it different from working and living here in the US?
Although the geography and climate between the two places are very different, the work culture is very similar. Australians like to enjoy themselves, but also take their work very seriously. The company I worked for was very innovative and forward-thinking so I have been able to apply that experience to Viridian.  I consider myself fortunate to have spent time there, especially in the energy and infrastructure sector.

CHARMED | What are the benefits for customers to enroll in Viridian Energy Service?
Wow. That’s an easy question—there are many! Put simply, customers have a choice and Viridian gives them the ability to save money over time while being a part of a significant collective impact on the environment with Viridian’s commitment to green energy. It comes down to being a more informed consumer and exercising your right to choose. Electricity has been deregulated to benefit customers. It’s up to each of us, as consumers, to take advantage of the savings and innovation available now through deregulation. What really makes Viridian different is the positive impact customers can have on the environment. Our customers are part of a collective impact that has made a measurable difference they can be proud of.

CHARMED | Many states, including Maryland, have adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS). What is this and how does Viridian’s compare to other suppliers?
A Renewable Portfolio Standard is a policy that requires suppliers and utilities to source a minimum amount of their energy from renewable sources. In Maryland, for example, the 2011 RPS is 7.5%. Viridian’s Everyday Green plan comes from 20% renewable resources, which means we voluntarily source an extra 12.5% from renewable resources in Maryland. The Everyday Green plan is our minimum green plan. We also offer a 100% Green-e Energy certified plan, which is an additional 100% on top of the state’s renewable portfolio standard. Comparable plans at the utility and offered by other suppliers meet the state minimum of 7.5%.

CHARMED | What impact can a residential customer have on their carbon footprint, just by switching to Viridian Energy from their current provider?
If an average Maryland residential customer using 1,000 kwh per month switches to Viridian Everyday Green for just one year, they avoid up to 588 pounds in their carbon emission, which is the equivalent of planting 35 trees or not driving 647 miles. If that same customer enrolled for our 100% renewable plan, they would be avoiding 11,760 pounds of carbon, which is the equivalent of planting an astonishing 698 trees or not driving close to 13,000 miles. These figures spell out the Viridian mission: it’s easy to make an impact just by switching to a greener plan. I love that Viridian makes it easy for the average person to make a difference in the environment without making major changes in their lifestyle, like deciding to switch to public transportation or biking to work. It’s an easy and powerful beginning.

CHARMED | How is Viridian able to reduce customer’s energy expenses?
Viridian offers a variable rate, which means our rate is closely aligned with the wholesale price of electricity. We are able to purchase electricity at a low rate and pass the savings along to our customers. In Maryland, this has allowed us to consistently set our rate lower than the utility’s. While we are most proud of the environmental impact our customers have, it’s wonderful to be able to offer greener energy along with an average annual savings.

CHARMED | What is the difference with a monthly variable rate vs. a fixed rate?
A variable rate means that the rate is not going to stay the same for any guaranteed period of time. The rate may change month to month and is typically based on the current price of electricity in a particular region. A fixed rate means that the rate will stay the same for a certain period of time, typically 6 months or a year even when the price of wholesale electricity fluctuates due to seasonal demand. Viridian’s variable rates allow customers to save money over time.

CHARMED | How is Viridian “Green”?
First of all, we offer renewable energy rate plans. Our energy comes from more renewable resources than the required standard in every market we operate in. But more than that, “green” is at the core of our identity: it’s in our name, it’s in our product, it defines our culture.

CHARMED | Why is important for your company to remain and improve on being “Green”?
Being “green” is our mission—it’s why we are here. We are confident that consumer choice can and will help drive the demand for renewable energy development, and ultimately drive down the cost of renewable energy. We’re constantly raising our standards to make sure that we are setting the best example possible in the industry. There can be consumer skepticism about being “green” and we want to make sure that our customers understand how and why we say we are green. This is why we produce things like our annual sustainability report, to help others understand what being green means for us. This awareness is important to attracting and retaining our customers. It’s important to us to keep telling our story because the more people who know about and switch to, the bigger our impact on the environment will be.

CHARMED | What other ways do you personally practice being “Green”?
I’m a big believer in the small acts. Just like switching suppliers, you can make small, everyday choices to be green. For example, I drive a hybrid car, I try to avoid disposable products, and try to cut waste in every area of my life. I’m also an active outdoorsman and simply love being outside. I’m from Seattle and grew up in the eco culture of the Pacific Northwest. It’s part of my roots—it’s who I am.

CHARMED | What is your 7 continents in 7 years program?
Just as it sounds, the program is our commitment to sponsoring a sustainability project in a new continent each year. There are really two objectives for the program: First, to raise awareness of a specific issue in a different country each year and second, to actually host a group to go to the country and take action. Our first journey is to Brazil where deforestation in the Amazon is rampant and devastating. We hope to raise awareness of the issue. Additionally, our group will plant trees in some of the most impacted areas. We know it’s next to impossible to reverse the affects of what has been done, but we hope that these trips will spread awareness and eventually make a real difference.

CHARMED | What events does Viridian currently participate in to promote green practices and initiatives?

Almost everything we do is participating in and promoting green initiatives. But in terms of specific events, we host a quarterly sustainability initiative project. These events have been beach clean ups in warm weather and this winter we are doing a clothing drive across all of our markets. We also highlight and support members of our community who are out there supporting sustainability on their own initiativecan be proud of.

‘Go Green’ educates students; provides discounted electric rates

Educating Others about the Power to choose in Viridian.

NEWFIELD — Our Lady of Mercy Academy’s Go Green initiative challenges students, faculty parents and community supporters to re-evaluate their impact on the environment and discover ways to make Mother Earth just a little bit better for its inhabitants.

The curriculum has students research technological changes, government legislation and other topics related to making the planet safer for future generations. As part of this process, the entire school community engages in its own energy audit, a program that will not only involve the participation of teachers and students, but will also engage the support of parents, alumnae and extended network of friends.

And, OLMA will be the beneficiary of an energy fundraiser that is supported by program participants who save on their monthly electric rates.

“Let’s face it, parents and contributors are constantly bombarded by schools and organizations to provide donations. In today’s economy, we needed to come up with something unique that could not only benefit our school but also ease the financial burden facing the many people who support our school,” explained principal Sister Grace Marie, D.M. “This fundraiser not only enhances our curriculum but helps fund our school operations and also provides a way for each and every supporter to realize a nice savings on their electric bills.”

Sister Grace added. “We receive needed funds to support our school without ever asking anyone to spend one dime more. It’s a wonderful program.”

The fundraising program is through a partnership with Viridian, a green energy company that provides electric to customers throughout the area. Through the state’s Energy Choice program, residents can choose Viridian as their third-party provider and, through this simple choice, realize a savings on their electric bills.

“The majority of people don’t know about Energy Choice or just don’t understand how simple it is to choose,” explained Sister Grace. “It’s up to us to help educate our parents and supporters so they can experience the benefits of the program. If electric customers do not choose, they have no control over the rates they pay. It’s really very simple.”

For supporters who choose Viridian through the OLMA fundraiser, the process is simple: just sign up online (www.viridian.com/OLMA) or through the mail. There are no fees to sign up, no contract or cancellation fees. Customers can cancel at any time. For each new customer, OLMA receives a contribution from Viridian. Delivery, line maintenance and customer service is still handled by the distributor, such as Atlantic City Electric, PSE&G and JCP&L. The billing process does not change and is still provided by the distributor.

And the savings?

According to company data, for the period June 2010 through November 2010, Viridian rates averaged $.1093/kWh. Atlantic City Electric rates averages. $.1393/kWh, equating to an average savings of 21.5 percent during the period. For the month of November, new Viridian customers receive a 17 percent savings off the posted ACE “pool” rates.

“Educating our students, faculty, parents and community about Energy Choice is one small part of our Go Green program,” explained Sister Grace, “but it’s an important element. Without choosing, parents won’t save on their electric and our school fundraiser won’t benefit.”

Anyone in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania (Viridian service areas) can support the OLMA program. It is not restricted to OLMA families.

For more about the program, visit www.olmagogreen.org or call the school at 856-697-2008.

CATHOLIC STAR HERALD

10/29 New Jersey still lags far behind New York and Connecticut in the number of residential customers who have switched suppliers?

This article is from NJ Spotlight. The opportunity withViridian Energystarted in this past May and we are still far behind New York and Connecticut with
our number of residential customers? There is still plenty of room to take advantage of opportunity created with deregulation! What are you waiting for?

10/29 New Jersey still lags far behind New York and Connecticut in the number of residential customers who have switched suppliers?

With consumers finally having an option to buy cheaper electricity, independent power suppliers are pushing for changes in state rules to make it easier to sign up customers from the state’s four electric utilities.

A steep drop in natural gas prices has created favorable conditions for so-called third-party suppliers to come into New Jersey and offer residential customers lower energy prices than the public utilities, a situation that has led tens of thousands of customers to switch.

It is the first time residential customers have switched in droves since the state deregulated the industry in 1999. Previously, third-party suppliers could not undersell the utilities. The incumbents bought their power in bulk, paying discounted prices because of the the large number of customers they had. Other suppliers could not get such discounts because they were buying less power.

Also, in an effort to prevent big spikes in electric bills caused by a rise in fuel prices, as happened with natural gas, the utilities buy one-third of the power they need every three years and come up with a price based on a three-year average.

The system has worked well in years when gas prices spiked, but works against consumers when the fuel prices drop. With the utilities locked in to the higher prices from three years ago, third-party suppliers are luring customers away by offering discounts of 15 percent or more.

As of August 2010, more than 45,000 residential customers had switched to third party suppliers, according to the most recent data on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities website.

But third-party yes power suppliers claim the number is much greater.

Viridian only started signing up customers this past May and it claims to have 60,000 residential and commercial customers, according to Joseph Mattia, an associate at the Connecticut-based firm. It promises customers lower prices, does not require a contract, and purchases 20 percent of its electricity from wind farms, Mattia said.

Still, even with the recent success enjoyed by the third-party suppliers, Murray Bevan, who represents the Retail Energy Supply Association, said New Jersey still lags far behind New York and Connecticut in the number of residential customers who have switched suppliers.

In general, the suppliers are pressing the board to review switching procedures to make the enrollment process more convenient for customers. They also want to eliminate a 30-day notice requirement to terminate a customer’s service because of nonpayment of bills.

More specifically, Bevan’s trade group wants the BPU to develop a Customer Match Page, a board-hosted web page where customers can voluntarily disclose energy needs and information, a system that would cut the high cost of marketing for new customers.

“What we’re trying to do is make it easier to reach customers and make it more effective,” Bevan said.

The four electric utilities—Public Service Electric & Gas, Jersey Central Power & Light, Atlantic City Electric and Rockland Electric—have jointly submitted written comments, urging the state to retain the current rules.

“Particularly in these current economic times, now is not the time to loosen the requirements associated with customer switching verification or a TPS’s [third-party supplier’s] obligation to drop a customer and push the customer back onto the BGS,’’ they wrote. BGS refers to Basic Generation Service, the power purchased by the utilities to supply customers who do not switch.

The utilities also opposed efforts by third-party suppliers to be able to quickly drop customers who do not pay their bills, arguing that is a routine cost of business that they ought to continue to shoulder.

The state is expected to adopt new rules governing energy competition sometime early next year.
